Question 4

Why use Localazy for translating XLIFF files?

Accepted Answer

Localazy reads XLIFF 1.2 and 2.0 files and keeps their structure. You upload the files, translate the content (with the help of Localazy AI), and download the result in the same layout your tool expects.

Create a new Localazy project, set up your style guide and glossary, and choose how your XLIFF content gets translated:

You can also use the Localazy CLI for automated uploads and downloads of XLIFF files from a build pipeline, so translations stay current without manual file handling.

Question 5

Can Localazy convert XLIFF to other formats?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Format Conversions exports your strings in a different file format than the one you uploaded, for example JSON, PO, Android XML or iOS strings. The reverse also works: upload JSON, download XLIFF.

In the web app, select the format in File Management before downloading. In the CLI, add a conversion section to localazy.json

Question 6

How do I bring existing XLIFF translations into Localazy?

Accepted Answer

Create a project and upload the source-language XLIFF file.
Upload the translated files. Localazy reads both and and takes the locale from the file.
Check the strings in the translation table. Localazy links translations to the same unit ids as the source.

If your tool writes different original or id attributes per language, add the ignore_original or ignore_id feature to the upload configuration so the files link correctly. Learn more about how’s Localazy working with XLIFF files in the docs.

Translation memory from another tool can be imported as a TMX file into a separate project and linked via Connected Projects.

Question 7

Can I use Localazy to cooperate with professional translation agencies using XLIFF?

Accepted Answer

Yes. There are three ways, depending on how you want to work.

Invite your vendor into the project. Add the agency’s translators as project members and assign them languages. They translate in the web editor with your style guide, glossary and context screenshots at hand. You see progress and review the work in the same place. No file handover needed.

Exchange XLIFF files with your vendor. Download the XLIFF files from Localazy and send them to the agency. When the translated files come back, upload them as existing translations. Localazy matches them to your strings by unit id.

Order translation from Localazy. Select the languages and strings, and order professional translation directly in the project. Localazy’s localization team manages the work with partner linguists, and the translations arrive in your strings, ready to download.
